Rachel Comey Spring/Summer 2011 collection shows how to be classic and still revealing

Rachel Comey has been designing for ten years. She has been in business so long because she makes clothes that women want, even when she started out all those years ago designing for men. Women would buy her collection for men in small sizes and hence she wonderfully crossed over into the wild world of women’s wear.

This season her collection offers silhouettes for the woman who doesn’t want to be underdressed even though she wants to undress as quickly as possible because it’s so hot outside. Comey plays with pockets, polka dot chiffons, and peplums with a 1940’s size and placement. She successfully created a spring/summer collection that looks back to a time when more fabric provides comfort from the sun. Her gold, blue, pink red, and black prints resemble sketch marked plaids and 70’s prints. Her crop shirts reveal enough of the mid-torso to leave viewers feeling intrigued and wearers feeling daring. This trend must be worn in solid colors of mellow prints as not to reincarnate the over shown Spears and Aguilera trend of the late 90’s which fashion can surely live without. This crop top trend done in muted colors and innovative cut is approaching the scene rapidly and when done correctly can have a very satisfying effect. Spaghetti strap dresses, interesting combinations of soft and hard techniques, peplum mini dresses, oversized tops, and high waisted shorts and skirts define this show. The highlight dress of the collection was a just above the knee silk black sketched plaid, super skinny spaghetti strap design. With it’s hourglass pin tuck in the center front to princess seam, it is sure to narrow down any buyer and finished with a peak-a-boo corset and belt fabricated in shiny beige with black trim. (Look #35 of 43 on Style.com). Classic and occasionally daring, Rachel Comey has given us another concept of how to make fashion all work out when we really just want to walk around naked.
