Jen Kao Spring/Summer 2011 collection speaks to the future summer fashionista

Kao’s past collections sent sexy, form fitting, easy to like, gorgeous looks down the runway and sent most fashion lovers into immediate heart wrenching desire. This collection was more inspiration driven than pure sex appeal and proves that Jen Kao goes deeper and better than she has already proven herself to be. As told on style.com, Jen “Kao's backstory involved girls wandering the desert in an altered state where they find the man of their dreams.” This super forward collection had a surplus of crop tops, heavy tailoring often paired with flowing asymmetrical pixie hemlines, laser cut knits which defines the most desirable dress of the collection, and many more pieces with details including crocheting and piece blocking. The gray silk safari pant and crop geometric white shirt is a satisfying trend for the fashionistas who hit the gym for the warm days of 2011. The ostrich leather details and wraparound leg accessories reminisced a bit of the trends seen in many 2008 collections yet felt relevant and complimentary of Kao’s vision. The neutral color palette made the innovative techniques and designs easier to swallow and the periwinkle and white prints at the end of the show were refreshing. The finale swimsuit would have been a gift to see without the full-length skirt but the top spoke enough of pure innovation to viewers that many will highly anticipate what Jen Kao has in store for her next collection.
